Ranchi Airport is also known as Birsa Munda Airport, located in the the city of Ranchi, the capital city of the
Indian state of Jharkhand. It is named after Indian tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.Birsa Munda Airport is a
public domestic airport serving the city of Ranchi and is managed by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The Airport
is the 27th busiest airport in India. The whole airport covers over an area of 1568 acres. The airport’s New Integrated
Terminal Building was inaugurated on March 26, 2013. BMA used to be a small airport in terms of service, however with the
growth of air traffic in India, BMA has also witnessed unprecedented growth in the last 3 years. Hajj pilgrims from Bihar,
Jharkhand annually go Jeddah from this airport. The new international terminal is now ready which is spread over 19,676 square
metres of land furnished with equipment imported from China, Germany and Singapore, and has the capacity to handle 500 domestic

with equipment imported from China, Germany and Singapore, and has the capacity to handle 500 domestic and 200 international passengers.
The Airports Authority of India also constructed three more parking bays, by making it the first Tier-II airport in India to have eight
aircraft parking bays.
Cargo Terminal
The old terminal is no longer used and remains closed for most of the time. It was shut down at midnight on 23 March 2013. The old terminal
now has been converted to cargo terminal and was inaugurated on 10 February 2017 by Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das. The terminal is
equipped with explosive trace detection devices, cargo X-ray machines, hardware security machines, and CCTV cameras.
